Camarillo A Hangs On

The Camarillo A American Legion baseball team blew a 10-2, fourth-inning lead Friday but rallied to defeat Santa Monica, 14-10, in the second round of the Area 6 tournament at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Camarillo’s Shane Miranda (6-3) earned the victory in relief and had three hits, including two triples, and four runs batted in.

Tony Murphy and Jay Caligiuri each had three hits and two RBIs for Camarillo and Adrian Gascon had three hits, including a double.

Antonio Barba had three hits and two RBIs for Santa Monica.

Facing elimination from the double-elimination tournament, Camarillo led, 8-0, when starter Greg Ramirez was relieved in the fourth inning by Dustin Adams.

In two-plus innings, Adams allowed six hits and eight runs. Santa Monica outscored Camarillo, 10-2, over a 4 1/2-inning stretch and produced a 10-10, eighth-inning tie.

Camarillo rallied for four runs in the eighth and advances to play Westside in a 10 a.m. elimination game today.

Should Camarillo defeat Westside, it will advance to play the loser of today’s 2 p.m. game between Newhall Saugus and Valley North at 6 p.m. today.

All of the tournament’s remaining games are at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

In the other Area 6 playoff game:

Valley North 18, Westside 4--Joe Tillmon had four hits and five RBIs, including a two-run double in the top of the fourth that tied the game, 4-4. Tim Wigand’s single later in the inning made it 5-4.

Valley North (27-6) had 19 hits to set up today’s game against Newhall Saugus. Valley North beat Newhall Saugus for the District 20 title six days ago.

Ryan Robbins (4-1) pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings in relief for the victory.
