Buena 45, Rio Mesa 21--Aaron Kleefisch ran for three touchdowns and gained 160 yards in 32 carries for Buena (6-2, 4-1) at Ventura High.

Buena trailed, 21-10, late in the second quarter, then reeled off 35 consecutive points.

Kleefisch’s two-yard touchdown run just before halftime cut Rio Mesa’s lead to 21-17, and Micah Thomas caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Kyle Loughman on the Bulldogs’ first possession of the third quarter to give Buena the lead for good.

Kleefisch also scored on runs of one yard in the third quarter and five yards in the fourth.

Loughman completed 14 of 25 passes for 206 yards, and also threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Ponch Ortiz.

Rio Mesa’s Howie Atkins had touchdown runs of 11 and five yards. Jay Flores gained 130 yards in 18 carries for the Spartans (3-5, 1-4), including a 13-yard touchdown run.
