First-Place Santa Ana Faces Oldest Rival

Fullerton and Santa Ana renew the oldest rivalry in the state and Saddleback is at Riverside in an equally important game Saturday in Mission Conference Central Division football games.

Santa Ana (5-3, 4-0) is in first place in the division and takes on Fullerton (5-3, 3-1) at 1 p.m. at Cal State Fullerton. It’s the 75th meeting between the colleges. Santa Ana has won five of the last six to take the series lead, 36-34. There have been four ties.

Fullerton is tied for second with Saddleback (5-3, 3-1) and Riverside (4-4, 3-1).

Santa Ana hosts Riverside, Palomar is at Saddleback and Fullerton is at Orange Coast in the final week of the season.

Men’s soccer: Three teams are separated by two points in the race for second place in the Orange Empire Conference. Only two teams from the conference make the playoffs.

Santa Ana (7-2-2 in conference) is in first place with 23 points and ends the season at 3 today at Irvine Valley (5-2-3, 18 points).

Fullerton (6-2-2) is in second with 20 points and hosts third-place Riverside (6-3-1, 19 points) at 3 today Cypress (3-5-2) at 3 on Friday. Irvine Valley is at Riverside Friday.
