The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team is not easing into the season with its opener against Texas-Arlington tonight at 5 at Northridge.

The Mavericks return six players, including three starters, from a team that finished 17-11 and second in the Southland Conference. Seniors Tanya Strong and Stacie Terry were Texas-Arlington’s top scorers and rebounders last season.

Northridge, 4-23 last season, lost an exhibition Tuesday to the Kilsyth Cobras, 70-63. Point guard Edniesha Curry and center Tannea Nelson each scored 13 points for the Matadors.

Curry, a freshman from Palmdale High, is one of several guards who Coach Mike Abraham hopes will make the Matadors a potent, up-tempo team.
