Desatoff Leads Cypress Past Santa Barbara

Vedda Desatoff scored the winning goal late in the game to give second-seeded Cypress a 1-0 victory over seventh-seeded Santa Barbara in the first round of the Southern California women’s soccer playoffs Tuesday at Cal State Fullerton.

Desatoff’s goal came in the 81st minute after taking a pass from Nicole Terry and kicking the ball in from 12 yards.

The victory was Cypress’ 14th consecutive shutout. The Chargers will play Ventura in a second-round game Friday at Cal State Fullerton.

In another women’s soccer playoff game:

Ventura 2, Orange Coast 1 (OT)--Emma Ekblad gave Orange Coast a 1-0 halftime lead, but Ventura (19-2) tied the score on a goal with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Ventura won the game five minutes into overtime on a goal by Joy Barry. Orange Coast finishes 16-3-4.

In the Southern California men’s soccer playoffs:

Santa Ana 2, Palomar 1 (2 OT)--Jaime Santana scored the winning goal in the sixth minute of the second overtime, leading Santa Ana (9-11-2) to the victory.

Palomar (17-2-1) led 1-0, at the half, but Orlando Suazo tied the score at 1-1, in the 20th minute of the second half.

Santa Barbara 2, Fullerton 1--Santa Barbara took a 2-0 halftime lead and went on to the victory. Mike Odera scored the only goal for Fullerton (9-11-2).
