Joy Barry scored two minutes into overtime Tuesday, lifting Ventura College to a 2-1 victory over Orange Coast in a first-round game of the Southern California Regional women’s soccer playoffs.

Barry converted a pass from Fiona Macdonald, allowing the Pirates (22-2-2) to avoid a repeat of last season, when Orange Coast (16-3-4) upset Ventura in a first-round game.

Emma Collision gave sixth-seeded Orange Coast a 1-0 halftime lead before Krista Van Nieuwberg’s goal with 18 minutes remaining in regulation produced a 1-1 tie.
