The Seattle Seahawks, reeling from a 41-3 loss to the New York Jets, will have to face Denver without starting quarterback John Friesz, who had surgery on his broken right thumb and is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks.

Warren Moon, 40, will replace him. Moon was seven of 21 for 89 yards with one interception in the second half against the Jets. Jon Kitna, who has not thrown an NFL pass, will be Moon’s backup.

San Diego Charger quarterback Stan Humphries is day to day after dislocating his left shoulder in Sunday’s loss at New England. . . . Miami Dolphin defensive end Daniel Stubbs will sit out the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a tendon in his right knee. Meanwhile, Dolphin Coach Jimmy Johnson said that he considered benching quarterback Dan Marino during the game and may bench him in the future if he continues to struggle or is not completely healthy. Marino completed only 10 of 26 passes for 105 yards and repeatedly overthrew receivers. . . . Denver Bronco quarterback John Elway believes the hit that Kansas City Chief safety Jerome Woods laid on him was late. So does Coach Mike Shanahan, which probably means the NFL hierarchy will be asked to review the controversial play in which referee Ed Hochuli did not throw a flag. . . . Tennessee lost strong safety Blaine Bishop for at least one week because of a broken right forearm.
