Avramis, Van Nuys Have the Numbers, Down Canoga Park

Ioannis Avramis had 26 kills, 16 blocks and four aces to power Van Nuys High to a 15-12, 8-15, 15-5, 15-6 victory over Canoga Park in a Valley Pac-8 Conference boys’ volleyball match on Wednesday at Van Nuys.

Wylie Chung and Tetsuya Kosaka each had seven kills for Van Nuys (6-2, 4-1 in conference play), while setter David Chae had 55 assists.

Phillip Mramor had 16 kills and six blocks for Canoga Park.

Poly d. Grant, 15-11, 15-11, 15-13--Gilbert Ramos had 12 kills and 23 assists for the Parrots (7-1, 5-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at Poly.

Billy Cuevas had 11 kills and Gabino Quiroz had 31 assists for the Parrots, who have won seven consecutive matches.

Ronald Ruiz had 15 kills for Grant (5-2, 3-2).

Sylmar d. North Hollywood, 15-13, 15-2, 13-15, 15-5--Ervin Gonzalez had 21 kills and eight blocks and Cesar Chavez added 14 kills for the Spartans (4-4, 2-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at North Hollywood.

Ken Hauser and Greg Roller each had seven kills for North Hollywood (3-5, 1-4).

Quartz Hill d. Antelope Valley, 15-4, 15-9, 15-6--Brandon Butchart had 14 kills, Cole Marta had 10 kills and five blocks, and Mario Grimm added 30 assists and had seven digs, and the Rebels (5-1) won a Golden League game at Antelope Valley.

Royal d. Simi Valley, 15-6, 15-7, 15-7--Diraj Coats had nine kills and James Whiting had 27 assists for the Highlanders (7-0, 6-0) in a Marmonte League victory at Simi Valley.

GOLF

Crescenta Valley 214, Hoover 249--Kevin Baik shot a five-over-par 40 for the Falcons (6-5, 4-2) in a Pacific League victory at Brookside Golf Course No. 2.

Albert Kim of Hoover also shot a 40.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Westlake 17, Channel Islands 1--Billy Corso, Albert Kim and Matt Pardee each won three sets for the Warriors (7-0, 6-0) in a Marmonte League victory at North Ranch Country Club.

Corso, Westlake’s No. 1 player, won by scores of 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Hart 108, Burroughs 62--Ryan Parmenter won the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle, and Christian Kneppeck won the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle for Hart (3-1, 2-0) in a Foothill League meet at College of the Canyons.

Parmenter qualified for the Southern Section meet by swimming 47.48 in the 100 and 1:44.01 in the 200.

Kneppeck qualified in the individual medley (2:01.36) and Eric Pritchett qualified in the 50 freestyle (22.12).

Chatsworth 134, Reseda 2--Derek Pendley won two events and swam on two relay teams for the Chancellors (3-3, 2-3), who won every event in a West Valley League meet at Birmingham High.

Pendley won the 50-meter freestyle and 200 individual medley, and shared in Chatsworth’s victories in the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Hart 131, Burroughs 39--Christine Castellano swam a Southern Section meet qualifying time of 1:03.20 in the 100 backstroke and won the 200 individual medley in 2:18.33 for Hart in a Foothill League meet at College of the Canyons.

Hayley Jones won the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle for Hart (3-1, 2-0).
