Camarillo Stays Perfect Thanks to Play of Ball

Cindy Ball’s run-scoring double in the 11th inning kept Camarillo High undefeated and led to a 2-0 victory over Agoura in a Marmonte League softball game Thursday at Agoura.

Ball’s game-winning hit was followed by Allison Taverner’s RBI single.

Ball (3-0), who has not allowed an earned run in 25 innings, gave up seven hits and struck out two for Camarillo (5-0, 3-0), top ranked in the region by The Times. Agoura fell to 8-4, 2-1.

Simi Valley 2, Newbury Park 1--Jill Clarkson drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning, scoring Dawn Carifi with the winning run for the No. 2 Pioneers (7-1, 2-1) in a Marmonte League game at Borchard Park.

Thousand Oaks 13, Channel Islands 3--Kristin Combe had a three-run home run and four RBIs in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks Community Park that was halted in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.

Colleen Spencer hit a two-run home run and had four RBIs for No. 9 Thousand Oaks (5-1-1, 3-0).

Canyon 2, Saugus 1--Kelli Luce had two hits, including a decisive run-scoring single in the sixth inning to upset No. 8 Saugus (6-4) in a Foothill League opener at Saugus.

Danielle Fiddler hit an RBI triple in the sixth inning to give Canyon (3-5) a 1-0 lead.

Julie Watson had three hits and Valarie Reyes added two for Saugus.

Valencia 2, Burroughs 1--Freshman Lauren Watson hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning to win a Foothill League opener at Valencia.

Watson hit her fifth home run of the season for No. 10 Valencia (7-2) in the sixth inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Hart 6, Burbank 0--Amanda Fortune, Lindsey Kontra and Casey Pickard combined to pitch a no-hitter for the No. 5 Indians (9-2) in a Foothill League opener at Newhall Park.

Pickard and Megan Patrick hit two-run singles to fuel Hart’s six-run fourth.

La Reina 15, Mayfield 0--Kristen Ward had three hits, scored two runs and had two runs batted in for No. 4 La Reina in a nonleague game at Mayfield.

Monica Thompson had three hits and scored two runs for La Reina (10-2).

Village Christian 2, L.A. Baptist 0--Jaclyn Aranda allowed only a single by Nikki Girard to open the game, struck out 14 and walked two for the Crusaders (10-2, 1-0) in an Alpha League victory at L.A. Baptist.

Kennedy 18, Birmingham 1--Eileen Solano had a two-run double, a run-scoring triple and a bases-loaded walk for the Golden Cougars (9-2, 2-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Birmingham (1-6, 0-2) that was called after six innings.

Reseda 4, Grant 1--Stephanie Yeatts pitched a four-hitter, striking out 13 and walking none for the Regents (4-4, 3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at Reseda.

Nelo Rezvani hit a run-scoring double to spark a four-run first inning for Reseda.

Monroe 10, Canoga Park 1--Sulma Santana had two hits and drove in two runs for the Vikings (6-5, 3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Canoga Park.

Colette Chisholm (2-2) pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts.

Carina Leon hit a home run in the first inning for Canoga Park (2-6, 0-3).

Verdugo Hills 8, Lincoln 0--Kim Wood threw a one-hitter and struck out 12 for Verdugo Hills (9-4, 3-0) in a Northern Conference game at Lincoln.
