South All-Star Football Roster Set

The roster for the South squad of the Orange County all-star football game was announced Monday. Tustin’s Myron Miller will coach the South and Rancho Alamitos’ Doug Case will coach the North. Players and coaches were selected by the Orange County Sportswriters Assn.

The South roster:

QUARTERBACKS--John Leonard (Mater Dei), Jeff Grady (Edison).

RUNNING BACKS--DeShaun Foster (Tustin), Mike Jones (Laguna Hills), Julio Peraza (Dana Hills), John Sanders (Fountain Valley).

RECEIVERS--Justin Isaac (University), Saia Makakaufaki (Laguna Hills), Larry Page (Dana Hills).

Frank Mazzotta Jr. was hired as La Habra High’s football coach, Athletic Director Frank McCarroll said Monday. Mazzotta, who was Lakewood Artesia’s coach the last three seasons, also will teach at La Habra.

The Op Pro at Huntington Beach, with a purse of $150,600, will return as an Assn. of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour event, July 27-Aug. 2, for the first time since 1991, the ASP announced.

Brandon Taliaferro, a UCLA sophomore, was named the American Volleyball Coaches Assn. national player of the week. Taliaferro, a 6-foot-5 setter from San Clemente High, helped top-ranked UCLA defeat Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine last week.
