El Toro 3, West Covina 1--Susan Churchwell’s RBI double broke a 1-1 tie with one out in the top of the seventh for El Toro (13-6). Churchwell (7-3), who pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts, hit a home run in the sixth to put El Toro ahead, 1-0.

El Toro plays Pacifica in today’s quarterfinals.

Kennedy 2, Saugus 1--Kennedy broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning and winning pitcher Nicole Crouse held on to post a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Kennedy advanced to the quarterfinals to play Upland.

Earlier, Kennedy defeated University, 2-1, on a combined six-hitter by Crystal Eubanks and Carolynn Ruark. Ruark held University hitless over the final four innings.

Pacifica 5, La Crescenta Crescenta Valley 0--Amanda Freed pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Pacifica (13-2).

Woodbridge 9, Lakewood 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Christy Robitaille pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Woodbridge, which advanced to the quarterfinals to play Cypress.

The Warriors also defeated Aliso Niguel, 4-2.

San Clemente 1, Cerritos Gahr 0--Nikki Shanafelt pitched a four-hitter for visiting San Clemente. Gahr is 11-2.

In Orange League girls’ track and field:

Magnolia 92, Anaheim 50--Jeremiah Faatilli set record in the discus with a throw of 163 feet 3 1/2 inches to lead Magnolia.

Faatilli topped the mark set by David Foucher (161-0) in 1972. Mike Rogers won the 100 (10.9 seconds) and 200 meters (23.0) for Magnolia (4-2, 2-0 in league).

In Orange League girls’ track and field:

Anaheim 92, Magnolia 31--Anaheim won eleven events. Magnolia’s Etta Jackson won the shot put (36-1 1/2) and discus (129-9) and Rita Hara won the 300 hurdles (53.9) for Magnolia (1-3, 0-2).

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Katella 96, Western 72--Junior Ryan Ruelas won the 200 freestyle (1:52.95), the 100 freestyle (51.48) and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:39.59) for Katella (4-4). Scott Winterbourne recorded a personal best in the 100 butterfly (1:06.53) and Scott Shaddy had a personal best in the 50 freestyle (23.26) for Katella.

In Empire League boys’ volleyball:

Kennedy 3, Cypress 2--Rupesh Bhakta had 22 kills and Cliff Okada had 52 assists for Kennedy (8-4, 4-4), which won, 16-14, 14-16, 15-12, 13-15, 15-10.
