Brooks Leads Harvard-Westlake

Reserve Veronica Brooks scored nine of her 15 points in the second quarter and Harvard-Westlake High defeated Fountain Valley, 62-35, on Saturday night to advance to the semifinals of the Santa Barbara tournament’s Green Division at Dos Pueblos High.

Rolake Bamgbose added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Omelogo Udeze scored 14 points for Harvard-Westlake (9-1), ranked No. 4 in the region by The Times.

Nordhoff 42, Rincon Christian 33--Christen Roper had 20 points and 21 rebounds in her second game back from a broken left hand and the Rangers won a second-round game in the Green Division at the Santa Barbara tournament.

The Rangers (3-4) outrebounded Rincon Christian, 45-9, but the game was tied, 28-28, in the last minute of the third quarter. Nordhoff scored the next seven points to pull away.

Lauren Cresto sparked the run with a three-point shot and another basket, and Danielle Rice had the other points in the spurt.

Alemany 40, Camarillo 35--Karrina Siam scored eight of her 13 points in the first quarter of the pool-play game at the Simi Valley tournament and the Indians (5-1) avenged an earlier loss to the Scorpions.

Kate Beckler added 12 points for Alemany, ranked No. 7 by The Times.

Camarillo (5-2) received 11 points from Lisa Donahue and rallied to within two points in the fourth quarter after trailing, 24-12, at halftime.

Alma Sandoval of Alemany hit two free throws with 20 seconds left to put the game out of reach.

Glendale 64, Agoura 57--Tania Adary made a three-point shot with 1.3 seconds left in regulation and scored five points in overtime to help the Dynamiters win the third-place game of the Burroughs tournament.

Adary had 10 points and seven assists, and Mania Houspian scored 17 for Glendale (9-2), ranked No. 10 in the region by The Times.

Notre Dame 61, Hoover 35--Sierra Hauser-Price had 12 of her 14 points in the first quarter and the Knights (8-4) won the seventh-place game of the Burroughs tournament.

Notre Dame, which collected 18 steals in the game, outscored Hoover, 20-2, in the first quarter.

Hoover’s only points of the quarter came on free throws.

Oxnard 42, Compton 37--The Yellowjackets held Compton (5-3) scoreless for the final 4:44 and scored the last eight points to win a second-round game in the Artesia tournament.

Michelle Morgan sank two free throws with 17 seconds left to seal the victory for the Yellowjackets (3-5).

Tina Samaniego had 16 points and five steals for Oxnard. Morgan had four points.
