McLeod, Quinn Spark Marina’s Tournament Win

Tournament MVP Chanda McLeod scored 22 points and Natalie Quinn scored 11 to lead Marina to a 67-37 championship victory over Culver City in the Lakewood Artesia girls’ basketball tournament Wednesday.

Culver City committed seven turnovers in the first quarter and Marina (11-0) capitalized, outscoring the Centaurs, 18-4.

In the third-place game:

Rosary 60, Calvary Chapel 35--Rosary took command early to take a 33-19 first-half lead. Romina Bollini, who had 10 of her 17 points in the first quarter, led Rosary with seven rebounds. Maggie Barnett also had 17 points for the Royals (8-4).

In the Los Alamitos Classic:

Troy 82, Los Angeles Washington 45--Tournament MVP Veronica Johns-Richardson had 26 points, nine rebounds and four assists to lead Troy (11-0) to a championship-game victory. Troy forced 10 turnovers in the second quarter and took a 40-23 halftime lead.

In the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions:

Esperanza 37, Chino 33 (OT)--Esperanza (6-4) led by one point in overtime, then Bethany Blair stole the ball and scored on a layup and was fouled with 20 seconds remaining. Her free throw gave the Aztecs a 37-33 lead in the Gold Division consolation-round victory. Blair, who had six rebounds, scored five of her 10 points in overtime.

Esperanza’s Lindsey Helvey made two free throws with 32 seconds remaining in regulation to make it 30-30 and help send the game into overtime.

Mater Dei 51, Cerritos 49--Kristin Hayman’s three-pointer at the buzzer gave the Monarchs (9-2) the victory in the ninth-place game of the Gold Division.
