No. 1 Chaminade Escapes Crespi With 62-54 Victory

Trailing by six points with five minutes remaining, top-ranked Chaminade High rallied behind Justin Beach and Justin Stewart for a 62-54 victory in a Mission League boys’ basketball game Wednesday night at Crespi.

Stewart scored all eight of his points in the final five minutes. Beach finished with 25 points and put the Eagles (20-1, 9-0 in league play) ahead for good, 54-52, on a layup with 1:30 left.

Blake Tibbetts scored 14 points for Crespi (11-12, 4-6).

Sylmar 49, Van Nuys 41--George Wrighster scored 15 points for Sylmar (12-9, 5-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys (1-19, 0-7).

San Fernando 80, Granada Hills 59--Tyrone Purnell had 24 points for the Tigers (20-2, 7-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills (8-13, 2-5).

Cleveland 59, Kennedy 52--Kent Dennis had 15 points, six steals and six assists for the Cavaliers (15-7, 5-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at Cleveland.

El Camino Real 60, Birmingham 58--Ryan Moss’ layup with 10 seconds left gave the Conquistadores (8-11, 3-4) a Northwest Valley Conference victory at El Camino Real.

Stanley Fetcher scored 24 points for Birmingham (13-8, 3-4).

Reseda 68, Poly 65--Engelberth Alvarez scored 30 points, including eight three-pointers, for the Regents (8-13, 3-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at Reseda.

Ellis Richardson scored 19 points for Poly (9-12, 3-4).

Notre Dame 63, St. Francis 58--Chris Williams had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights (10-11, 3-6) in a Mission League victory at Notre Dame.

Shaun Scranton scored 22 points for St. Francis (11-12, 4-6).

Montclair Prep 90, Silverado 50--Rocky Steryo had 25 points, eight assists and five steals and the Mounties earned their 15th consecutive victory in a nonleague game at Montclair Prep.

Kevin Bentley added 22 points and 12 rebounds for Montclair Prep (21-3).

Channel Islands 79, Agoura 69--Franklin McKesson scored 23 points for the Raiders in a Marmonte League victory at Agoura.

Oxnard 65, Buena 31--Damien Tafoya scored 23 points for the Yellowjackets (13-8, 7-4) in a Channel League game at Buena (3-20, 0-11).

O.J. Thomas had 33 points for Channel Islands (16-5, 7-4).

Westlake 84, Camarillo 46--The Warriors held the Scorpions (8-12, 2-9) to four baskets in the first half of a Marmonte League victory at Westlake (11-10, 3-8).

Joey Cuppari scored 28 points for Westlake and Jesse Jacques added 20.

Oak Park 61, Bishop Diego 53--John Murphy had 24 points and 18 rebounds for the Eagles (13-7, 5-1) in a Tri-Valley League victory at Oak Park.

Oak Park, three-time defending league champion, moved into first place by one-half game while handing bishop Diego its first league setback.

GIRLS

Grant 90, Van Nuys 29--Nakeisha Perkins and Angela Terry each scored 26 points for the Lancers (18-3, 7-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.

Terry had nine rebounds, eight steals and seven blocked shots, and Perkins grabbed 23 rebounds.

San Fernando 65, Cleveland 53--Anica Arriola scored 19 points for the Tigers (6-13, 2-5) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at San Fernando.

Arielle Thomas had 17 points for Cleveland (9-8, 2-5).

Granada Hills 60, Birmingham 42--Jessica Cosby scored 20 points for the Highlanders (12-4, 6-1)) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at Birmingham.

Sylmar 38, Reseda 33--Michelle Jimenez had 11 points, 17 rebounds and 12 blocked shots for the Spartans (8-8, 4-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at Sylmar.

North Hollywood 94, Monroe 28--Ashley Fargeon had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies (20-2, 6-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory at Monroe.

Royal 59, Newbury Park 54--Kristin Galbraith had 16 points for the Highlanders (21-2, 10-1) in a Marmonte League victory at Newbury Park (10-10, 6-5).
