Ocean View Shuts Down No. 8 Tustin
Ocean View set a school record for the fewest points allowed in a game as the second-ranked Seahawks defeated No. 8 Tustin, 54-19, in a Golden West League game Friday night.
The previous record was 22 points, set against San Luis Obispo and tied this season against Westminster.
Ocean View (18-4, 8-0), which led 23-2 at the half and 40-6 at the end of the third, had defeated Tustin (18-6, 5-3) in their first league game, 59-49.
The Seahawks were led by Tony Dow with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kevin Hanson added six points and 10 rebounds.
Ocean View, top-ranked in Division III-A, plays Etiwanda, ranked second in Division I-AA, today in the Nike Extravaganza at 11 a.m.
In the Century League:
No. 10 Villa Park 65, Santa Ana Valley 44--Villa Park trailed at the half, 29-28, but outscored the Falcons, 21-4, in the third quarter to put the game away. Alan Verzani scored 19 points, had 16 rebounds and nine blocks to lead Villa Park (17-6, 7-1). Chris Hillman added 11 points and seven assists.
Koa Bartlett led Santa Ana Valley (7-16, 3-5) with 18 points.
In the Empire League:
No. 9 Katella 71, El Dorado 53--Don Carey scored eight of his 10 points as Katella sprinted away to a 26-14 first-quarter lead on its way to a victory at El Dorado. Robert Abercrombie led the Knights with 27 points and Matt Tisthammer scored 14 and Brandon Jordan 12 for Katella (21-3, 6-2).
Mike Gartner led the Golden Hawks with 19 points. El Dorado (14-9, 3-5) cut the lead to eight points in the third quarter but couldn’t get any closer.
Century 56, Cypress 49--Century outscored Cypress, 18-9, and took control of the game. Terrail Zoller led Century with 21 points and Mike Zepeda added 18.
Chris Heil led Cypress with 20 points.
In the Golden West League:
No. 6 Servite 48, Saddleback 43--Steve Shea was four for four from the free-throw line as Servite didn’t hit a field goal in the fourth quarter. Shea, who made 12 of 16 free throws in the game, led all scorers with 18 points for Servite (18-5, 7-1).
Alex Toland led Saddleback (7-17, 2-6) with 14 points.
In the Orange League:
Anaheim 67, No. 5 Magnolia 65--Jimmy Campos hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds left in the contest to lift Anaheim. Magnolia’s Zamiro Bennem had 32 points.
Anaheim (9-13, 2-6) hit 14 of 26 shots from three-point range, including six of six shooting from Campos.
In the Olympic League:
Ontario Christian 56, Brethren Christian 54 (OT)--Romel Agee hit a three-pointer to open the overtime period and put Ontario Christian (9-13, 2-6) ahead for good. Brian Fuqua led all scorers for Ontario Christian with 23 points. Agee finished with 11.
Justin Miller led Brethren Christian (5-18, 1-7) with 22 points and eight rebounds and Kevin Thomas added 14 points and seven rebounds.
In the Orange League:
No. 7 Brea Olinda 90, Valencia 69--Chris McMillian scored 27 points, Reid Carlson had 15 and Jeff Mason had 12 points and 15 rebounds for Brea Olinda (20-4, 6-2).
In the Sea View League:
No. 1 Santa Margarita 63, El Toro 42--Dekker McKeever scored 17 points and had 13 rebounds in a victory for Santa Margarita. Ryan Forehan-Kelly scored 15 points and had 16 rebounds for the Eagles (22-1, 7-1).
T.J. Williams had 14 points and nine assists for Santa Margarita.
Newport Harbor 53, Corona del Mar 33--Matt Jameson scored 25 points for Newport Harbor (16-8, 5-3), which led at the half, 30-9.
Woodbridge 68, Irvine 61--Scott Barlow scored 30 points in a victory for Woodbridge (12-12, 3-5). Teammate Charles Clark had 17 points.
Chris Ferguson scored 23 points for host Irvine (13-11, 2-6).
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 73, Trabuco Hills 60--Josh Garrett scored 20 points and Jermaine McDaniel added 18 for Capistrano Valley (17-6, 6-2). Evan Fields scored 17 points to lead Trabuco Hills (13-11, 4-4).
Mission Viejo 62, San Clemente 56--Jerry Bolton had 18 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for Mission Viejo (7-16, 1-7), which earned its first league victory.
