Lepisto Beats the Clock and Simi Valley, 70-69

Garrett Lepisto scored a rebound basket at the buzzer to give Agoura High a 70-69 boys’ basketball victory over Simi Valley in a Marmonte League game Wednesday night at Simi Valley.

Lepisto, who had 22 points, scored the final seven points of the game to lead the Chargers (13-10, 7-6 in league play).

Lepisto’s three-point shot made it 69-66 and he connected for two with six seconds left.

Marcus Helfman stole Shaun Michel’s inbounds pass and got the ball to Mike Patterson, who missed a shot from the lane. Lepisto tipped in the rebound as time expired.

It was the second consecutive loss at home for the Pioneers (21-5, 10-3), who began the season as the top-ranked team in The Times’ regional poll.

Grant 91, Canoga Park 76--The Lancers maintained a one-game lead in the East Valley League with a victory at Canoga Park.

After the game, Grant’s Adir Levy was punched in the face by a Canoga Park player, according to Grant Coach Howard Levine.

Levy, a senior guard, suffered a broken nose and was taken to the hospital by his family, Levine said.

Canoga Park Coach Ralph Turner said the incident will be dealt with today at school.

“I’m shocked by what happened,” Turner said. “I didn’t see it coming. There didn’t seem to be any animosity during the game.”

Gilbert Arenas had 24 points for Grant (17-7, 8-1 in conference).

Newbury Park 85, Camarillo 60--Daniel Bobik had 19 points and eight steals to help the Panthers (22-4, 13-0) clinch their first outright Marmonte League title since 1981.

Harvard-Westlake 91, Notre Dame 84--Russell Lakey scored nine of his 39 points in overtime, and the Wolverines (18-7, 6-5) rallied to win a Mission League game at Harvard-Westlake.

North Hollywood 66, Monroe 54--Keron Wilkerson scored 33 points and the Huskies (16-8, 7-2) stayed alive in the East Valley League race with the victory.

San Fernando 64, Birmingham 56--Devin Montgomery scored 24 points for the Tigers (22-2, 9-0) in a North Valley League victory at Birmingham.

Sylmar 69, Reseda 44--The Spartans used 55 rebounds and 22 steals to clinch the Mid-Valley League championship at Sylmar.

Jeremiah Turner had 16 points, 15 rebounds and four steals for the Spartans (14-9, 7-2).

Van Nuys 47, Poly 46--David Gharkhanian scored his only points on a layup with eight seconds left to help the Wolves (2-20, 1-8) break an 11-game losing streak in a Mid-Valley League game at Van Nuys.

Chatsworth 58, Kennedy 47--Montae McFarland had 14 points for the Chancellors (14-9, 5-4) in a West Valley League victory.

Bell-Jeff 72, Mary Star 69--Ruben Douglas scored 51 points for the Guards (16-12, 8-4) in a Santa Fe League victory at Mary Star.

GIRLS

El Camino Real 68, Chatsworth 32--Cara Blumfield scored 44 points for the Conquistadores (19-0, 9-0) in a West Valley League game at El Camino Real.

Grant 65, Monroe 37--Nakeisha Perkins had 24 points, 17 rebounds and six steals, reaching 1,000 rebounds for her career for the Lancers (19-4, 8-1) in a Mid-Valley League victory at Grant.

Reseda 59, Canoga Park 57--Ig Herrera made a layup at the end of regulation and scored eight points in overtime to lift the Regents in an East Valley League game at Reseda.

Herrera had 36 points for Reseda (8-10, 5-4).

Poly 41, Sylmar 37--Norma Flores scored all nine of her points in the final two minutes and the Parrots (7-11, 5-4) rallied to win an East Valley League game at Poly.

The Parrots are tied for first place with Reseda and Sylmar (9-9, 5-4) with one game to play.

North Hollywood 88, Van Nuys 17--Markia Derby scored 21 points for the Huskies (22-2, 8-1) in a Mid-Valley League game at North Hollywood.

Granada Hills 71, San Fernando 43--Jessica Cosby scored 33 points to help the Highlanders (14-4, 8-1) clinch the North Valley League title.
