Frank Addleman and Doug Gorrie, who have combined for more than 70 years of coaching and teaching at Santa Ana College, have retired from full-time assignments at the college.

Addleman was wrestling coach at the college from 1961 to 1981 and his 1971 team won a state title. He also coached seven individual national champions, 13 state champions and 35 of his wrestlers were All-Americans.

He was inducted into the Orange County Wrestling Hall of Fame two years ago. Addleman, considered an expert in fitness and nutrition, wrote a book titled “The Winning Edge: Nutrition for Athletic Fitness and Performance,” which was published by Prentice Hall in 1984.

The men’s and women’s basketball playoff pairings will be announced today. Santa Ana, which won the Orange Empire Conference men’s title, should get a spot somewhere in the top eight of the 32-team field.

Fullerton and Orange Coast tied for the women’s title and OCC Coach Mike Thornton, who is the seeding representative from the conference, hopes both teams will be among the top eight and receive first-round byes in the 24-team field. Fullerton will get the higher seeding based on a better power rating than OCC.
