Santa Ana Gets Past Fullerton in 10th Inning

Jennifer Hunt scored the winning run on Megan Hamrock’s fielder’s choice in the top of the 10th inning as Santa Ana defeated Fullerton, 1-0, in Orange Empire Conference women’s softball Thursday.

Hunt had reached base on a fielder’s choice and moved to third on singles by Jessina Stedman and Julia Burla.

Hunt pitched a five-hitter for the Dons (2-0 in conference). Michelle Harrison gave up five hits for Fullerton (2-1, 1-1).

In Orange Empire Conference baseball:

Golden West 6, Santa Ana 5--Luis Santos drove in Josh Roberts with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning for Golden West. Cory Carr (3-0) pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs and eight hits for the Rustlers (9-4, 2-1).

Riverside 8, Cypress 7--Gabe Gerhardt was three for five, including a solo home run, for Cypress. Jeff Schultz (3-2) gave up the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Chargers (9-6, 2-1).

Saddleback 20, Fullerton 1--Claire Langford was five for five and led Saddleback’s 15-hit attack. Langford also scored five runs.

Kirk Bolling had three hits, including his eighth home run of the year, four runs scored and four RBIs. Denny Seybert also scored four runs for the Dons (10-3, 1-2).

Pitcher Ryan Poe gave up nine hits in six innings to improve his record to 4-0.

Mike McCue had three hits for Fullerton (9-5-1, 1-1).

In nonconference baseball:

Orange Coast 14, East Los Angeles 3--Chad Gonzalez had four hits, including two home runs and six RBIs, as Orange Coast ended a four-game losing streak. The Pirates (7-6) led, 1-0, in the third inning, when Gonzalez hit a three-run home run.

Brandon Thompson and Ivan Loochkartt each had three hits for Orange Coast. Thompson and John Lukin each had three runs scored.

East L.A. fell to 3-5.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, Santa Barbara 0--Dan Roditi defeated Santa Barbara’s Pat Lobb, 6-3, 6-1, as Saddleback completed a sweep of Santa Barbara. Roditi teamed with Kunio Koga to defeat Lobb and Everett Schroeter, 6-3, 7-5, in doubles. Saddleback is now 6-1.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Orange Coast 6, Irvine Valley 3--Martha Garcia of Orange Coast won in No. 1 singles, beating Sarah Curry of Irvine Valley, 6-2, 6-0. Orange Coast’s doubles team of Camella Jaeger and Melissa Walker beat Curry and Karlie Noyes, 6-0, 6-2. Orange Coast improves to 3-11, 2-1.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Saddleback 7, Palomar 2--Erika Dommeyer defeated Palomar’s Ruth Chon in singles, 6-2, 6-3. Saddleback improved to 4-1.
