Community Radio Station Moves to 1690 AM

Share

The city’s community and emergency radio station has changed its broadcasting frequency from 1650 AM to 1690 AM to comply with a request from the Federal Communications Commission.

The FCC assigned a commercial radio station to the frequency previously used by the city-run Culver City Source, said Randi Joseph, city public information officer. She said the changeover occurred earlier this week and that the commercial station will regularly announce the new location of the emergency station.

The city station broadcasts emergency-related information in the event of an earthquake or other disaster, and city announcements during normal operation.

Joseph encouraged residents to make sure their radios can receive the emergency station. Radios manufactured before 1985 typically do not receive frequencies higher than 1590, she said.
