Irvine Valley 70, Saddleback 68--Ben Esplin’s basket with 18 seconds remaining gave Irvine Valley (13-5, 1-0) a two-point lead over Saddleback (8-8, 0-1).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:

Cypress 63, Fullerton 62--Mary Perry made a 14-footer with less than a second remaining to give Cypress (14-6, 1-0) the victory. Perry also converted a layup with 48 seconds left to cut Fullerton’s lead to 62-61. Aimee Copp scored 23 points for Fullerton (14-6, 0-1).
