Marmonte Trio Tops in Experience

Few girls’ basketball leagues in the country can boast a trio of coaches with as many victories and as much experience as the Marmonte League.
Nori Parvin, Chuck Brown and Dave Murphy have combined for 57 seasons and almost 900 victories at their respective schools.
Parvin, in her 24th season at Newbury Park, earned her 300th career victory Tuesday night in the Panthers’ 59-48 upset of Channel Islands.
Brown is 310-114 in 16 seasons at Thousand Oaks, while Murphy has won 268 games in 17 seasons at Simi Valley. Thousand Oaks travels to Simi Valley tonight for a key Marmonte League game.
While Brown has announced that he will retire at the end of the season, Parvin and Murphy say they have no intention of quitting any time soon.
“I can still watch ‘Hoosiers’ 1,000 times without getting tired of it,” said Parvin, who won the Southern Section Division III-A title in 1994-95.
Murphy hopes to coach his three daughters, talented youth league players, through their high school careers. Joelle is in seventh grade, Leah is in fifth grade and Keely is a second-grader.
That would keep Murphy on the job through the 2007-2008 season.
