Eagles Fall to Poway in Wrestling

Poway, ranked fourth in California, went 3-0 to capture Saturday’s championship at the Ventura four-way wrestling tournament. Third-ranked Calvary Chapel was 2-1 and ninth-ranked Hughson was 0-3 with an injury-depleted squad.

Josh Saul (215) and Adam Bones (119) were among four Calvary Chapel wrestlers to finish first in their weight class. Poway beat Calvary Chapel, 40-26.

At the Bolsa Grande wrestling tournament:

Marin wins--Mission Viejo’s Luca Marin won at 152 pounds to help the Diablos take third place.

At the La Quinta Blackhawk wrestling invitational:

Christensen wins--Jessie Christensen of Brea Olinda, which finished fourth in the team standings, won the 112-pound individual championship. Foothill’s Donnie Pulley won the 171-pound title.

At the San Diego Orange Glen wrestling tournament:

Laguna Hills finished fourth--Bob Griffin won at 146 pounds, and Victor Ha (113) and Mike Quesnel (161) were third for the Hawks.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Century 43, Laguna Hills 38 (2 OT)--A three-pointer by Aprile Powell and a 14-foot jump shot by Adriana Mendez helped Century (11-5) outscore Laguna Hills (3-8), 7-2, in the second overtime.

In the Katella girls’ soccer tournament:

Fullerton 1, Orange 0 (Fullerton wins on penalty kicks, 3-1)--Jamie Hutchison, Wendy Lowry and Christie Casas each scored on penalty kicks for Fullerton in the semifinal game.

In the Newport Harbor/Corona del Mar girls’ water polo tournament:

No. 2 Capistrano Valley 3, Poway 2--The Cougars (10-3) built a 3-0 lead in the championship game before Poway scored two goals in the final quarter.

In the Western girls’ water polo tournament:

Canyon 13, Burbank Burroughs 4--Megan Fisher scored three goals, including two in the fourth quarter, to lead Canyon to the tournament title.
