Without Greco, Crescenta Valley Romps Anyway

With the star senior player sitting out, the sophomores shined for the Crescenta Valley High girls’ basketball team on Friday night.

Sophomores Sinnamonn Garrett and Kristie Umemoto combined for 58 points to offset the absence of All-American Michelle Greco as the Falcons hammered Hoover, 100-34, in a Pacific League game at Crescenta Valley.

Garrett scored 30 points and Umemoto had 28. They each made six three-point shots for the Falcons (16-1, 5-0), the top-ranked team in the Times’ regional poll.

Garrett also had nine rebounds and seven assists, and Tara Gregory added 12 points and nine assists for Crescenta Valley.

Greco, who is suffering from a sore quadriceps muscle, sat out as a precautionary measure. Crescenta Valley plays second-ranked Buena in a nonleague game tonight.

“We hope we’ll have her back for the big game,” Crescenta Valley Coach Damian Scribner said.

VALLEY PAC-8

North Hollywood 62, Canoga Park 27--Lindsay Sotero-Higa and Claudia Villa had 17 points each for the Huskies at North Hollywood.

Angelle Hill added 12 points and six steals for fourth-ranked North Hollywood (18-1, 4-0), which played without starters Markia Derby and Tashean Thomas. Derby, a forward, and Thomas, a guard, were benched for disciplinary reasons.

Grant 79, Reseda 25--Nakeisha Perkins had 23 points, 14 rebounds and four assists, and Angela Terry had 18 points, 11 rebounds, nine steals, six assists and five blocked shots for the Lancers (15-3, 4-0) at Grant.

Poly 64, Monroe 40--Quiana Jeffries had 18 points, seven blocked shots, six steals and six assists and her sister, Ciara Jeffries, scored 14 points for Poly (4-9, 2-2) at Monroe (4-7, 2-2).

Maria Castillo scored 12 points for Monroe.

NORTHWEST VALLEY

Cleveland 56, Chatsworth 45--Schquay Brignac hit 10 of 14 free throws en route to 14 points for the Cavaliers (9-5, 2-2) at Chatsworth. Mishawn Simms added 10 points and five assists and Joann Ov also had 10 points for Cleveland. Patricia Nuno scored 23 points for Chatsworth (5-11, 1-3).

El Camino Real 61, Granada Hills 51--Cara Blumfield had 16 points, five assists and four steals against a Highlander box-and-one defense, and Leslie Lara had 14 points for the Conquistadores (14-0, 4-0) at Granada Hills.

Jessica Cosby had 23 points and 16 rebounds, and Jillian Lang had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Highlanders (9-4, 3-1).

Taft 54, San Fernando 31--Tynisha Howze scored a game-high 13 points for Taft (9-5, 3-1) at San Fernando.

Anicia Arriola had 10 points, and Maria Castellanos had four points and 12 rebounds for San Fernando (5-11, 1-3).

Birmingham 53, Kennedy 34--Yvonne Velazquez had 20 points, 10 rebounds and six steals for the Braves (9-5, 2-2) in a victory at Birmingham.

FRONTIER

Santa Paula 52, Calabasas 49--Sarah Kolbeck had 21 points and eight steals for the Cardinals (6-11, 2-3) at Santa Paula. Stephanie Goldman had 16 points for Calabasas (8-8, 2-3).

MARMONTE

Royal 49, Channel Islands 45--Kristen Galbreath had 13 points and seven rebounds, Alicia Weber had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, and the Highlanders (18-2, 7-1) won for the first time at Channel Islands in Coach Mike Kohl’s four years at Royal.

Chenne Tuimoloau had 16 points for the Raiders (13-5, 4-4).

Thousand Oaks 53, Agoura 39--Elena Salvador paced first-place Thousand Oaks (12-5, 7-1) with 19 points, and Sara Pederson and Nicole Vasquez each had 10 at Agoura.

Megan Skelly scored 12 points for Agoura (5-12, 1-7).

Newbury Park 64, Westlake 47--Bridget Harris and Oli Keohouho each scored 10 points for the Panthers (9-8, 5-3) in a victory at Newbury Park.

Simi Valley 47, Camarillo 40--Ann Marie Turpin came off the bench to score seven of her 15 points in the fourth quarter at Camarillo.

Elise Metcalf scored six of her 15 in the same period for the Pioneers (11-7, 5-3), who outscored the Scorpions (4-13, 0-8), 17-8, in the final period.

MISSION

Harvard-Westlake 77, Flintridge Sacred Heart 37--Corrie Roberts had 19 points for Harvard-Westlake (16-4, 5-0) at Flintridge Sacred Heart.

Megan Hankins had 14 points for Flintridge Sacred Heart (5-9, 1-4).

Alemany 61, Louisville 40--Kate Beckler had 16 points and Korina Siam had 14 for Alemany (14-6, 4-1) at Louisville. Sarah Kelso had 13 points for Louisville (12-3, 2-3).

Notre Dame 79, Chaminade 55--Sierra Hauser-Price (15 points), Jamie Fortin (14), Michelle Barraza (12) and Christine Zahka (12) each scored in double figures for the Knights (13-5, 3-2) at Chaminade.

PACIFIC

Glendale 52, Arcadia 48--Alina Markari had 13 points, seven steals and seven rebounds, and Pola Aghakhanians had 12 points for the Dynamiters (13-7, 4-1), who held off the Apachies (4-7, 2-3) at Arcadia.

Hilary Driffill had nine points and 18 rebounds for Glendale.
