Orange County’s top senior volleyball players gathered Friday night at Golden West College for the 21st North and South Volleyball All-Star matches.

The girls’ South team defeated the North, 30-28, 19-30, 22-20. Mater Dei standout Amy DeCinces led the South team with 15 kills. Jami Bari of Dana Hills, who was named the girls’ most valuable player, had 10 kills.

Marina’s Lindsay Phillips led the North with 17 kills.

The South narrowly won the first game, 30-28, when Bari put the game away with a kill. However, the North stormed back in the second game behind Phillips’ strong presence at the net and Lori Daedelow’s serving. Phillips will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Santa Margarita’s Michelle Chambers provided some key kills in Game 3 to help the South. In that game, she had one block and five kills.

Both the boys’ and girls’ matches were played with rally scoring with 30 being the winning score in Games 1 and 2, and 21 in the final game.

The North won the boys’ match, 30-25, 30-26, 18-21.

Marina’s Jeremy Blain, who will be attending UC San Diego, had key blocks and service aces in Game 2. He was named the MVP for the boys.

Chris Anderson of Fountain Valley led the North with nine kills and five blocks.

“There is so much talent out here, you really don’t coach these guys, you just sit back and watch the fun,” said North Coach Archie Ochoa of Tustin.
