SCHOOL: Crescenta Valley
SPORT: Baseball
YEAR: Junior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Olson, a 6-foot-1 left-hander, began his first varsity season as an unheralded pitcher but wound up as Pacific League co-player of the year after helping the Falcons win their second consecutive league title. Olson’s dominance continued in the playoffs, when he helped the Falcons win their first Southern Section Division I championship. He was 11-1 with an 0.92 earned-run average.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Olson struck out eight and allowed three hits and one run in 4 2/3 innings in a 7-1 victory over Anaheim Esperanza in the Division I final Saturday at Dodger Stadium. He was also the winning pitcher in a 3-0 semifinal victory over Yucaipa, allowing five hits and striking out five in 5 1/3 innings. Olson played both games with back spasms. “He beat two pretty good teams while being in a lot of pain,” Crescenta Valley Coach Phil Torres said.
