Birmingham’s Season Hears Final Bell, 2-1
The bell finally tolled for Birmingham.
The Braves, who had advanced in the past two rounds of the City Section playoffs because of opponents’ forfeits, lost to Bell in the boys’ soccer semifinals, 2-1, Wednesday at Bell.
Benjamin Covarrubias scored both goals for Bell (14-4-1).
HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS
Rio Mesa 15, Newbury Park 3--Derrick Goldie won all three of his singles sets for visiting Rio Mesa (2-0) in a nonleague match.
Santa Paula 17, Hueneme 1--Rocky Manzano and Robbie Harrison won all three sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for host Santa Paula (2-0) in a non league match.
HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
Granada Hills d. Roosevelt, 15-5, 15-8, 12-15, 8-15, 15-8--Mike Aleman had 16 kills and Matt Koprowski added 10 in a victory for the visiting Highlanders (1-0).
Monroe d. Venice, 6-15, 15-9, 15-1, 15-1--Jose Sanchez had six kills and five blocks for Monroe (1-0) in a nonconference match at Monroe.
St. Francis d. La Canada, 15-13, 15-4, 11-15, 13-15, 15-7--Opposite hitter Jeff Bordey had 32 kills for the Knights (2-0) in a nonleague match at La Canada.

Flintridge Prep 199, La Canada 218--Jeff Osborn shot a two-over-par 38 for Flintridge Prep (2-0) in a nonleague match at Brookside Golf Course.
North Hollywood 232, Kennedy 278--Chang Yi shot a two-over-par 38 for North Hollywood (1-0, 1-0) in a City 3-A League match at Hansen Dam.
