Northridge Adds Toon to List of Valley Recruits

Kennedy High boys’ volleyball player Jeff Toon has committed to Cal State Northridge.

Toon, a 6-foot-7 middle blocker, is the second Valley player in the past week to commit to Northridge, joining Joe Nargi of Taft.

“[Northridge Coach Jeff Campbell] wants to base his team from the Valley and he’s looking forward to the future,” said Toon, a two-time All-City Section and All-Northwest Valley Conference selection. “He’s been working hard to build up the program.”

SOFTBALL

Glaister’s glory: Cal State Northridge’s Tara Glaister was chosen Big West pitcher of the week for her performance in last week’s Cal State Fullerton tournament.

Glaister (9-6), who went 3-1 in five appearances, allowed 10 hits and struck out 25 in 22 innings. The junior right-hander defeated Georgia State, Nevada Las Vegas and No. 3 Washington and lost against top-ranked Arizona.

On the mend: Pitcher Brittney Green of Simi Valley is sitting out this week, resting a shoulder injury she sustained Saturday early in the Pioneers’ 6-2 victory over Righetti in the championship game of the Simi Valley tournament.

Green (2-0), who has allowed two hits in 11 innings this season, left the game and was taken to the hospital by her parents. Initial X-rays revealed no muscle or tendon damage. The sophomore right-hander will be evaluated by a doctor Monday, Coach Suzanne Manlet said.

MEMORIAL

Service: A memorial service for former Burbank High baseball Coach Frank DesEnfants will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, 4390 Colfax Ave., in North Hollywood.

DesEnfants, 52, died Monday morning, apparently of a heart attack. He coached at Burbank for two years until resigning at the end of last season.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy, and sons J.P. and Justin.
