Casting Ballots in Local Races, Issues

Ventura County voters will cast ballots Tuesday in a host of local races, including those to determine successors to Republican state Assembly members Brooks Firestone and Nao Takasugi.

They will also decide the fate of Measure B, the countywide SOAR initiative, which would prevent politicians from rezoning farmland and open space outside cities without voter approval.

Voters will choose among candidates for Superior Court judge, county assessor, the county Board of Education and the community college district.

And they will select members of Congress. Thousand Oaks voters will help decide between Democratic incumbent Brad Sherman and Republican Randy Hoffman, while voters in the rest of the county will decide between Republican incumbent Elton Gallegly and Democrat Dan Gonzalez.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Those who need help finding their polling place can call Ventura County elections officials at 654-2766.
