Wyatt’s 256 Yards, 4 Touchdowns Lead Kennedy, 31-18

Cedeno Wyatt rushed for 256 yards in 41 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead Kennedy past Buena Park, 31-18, in a nonleague game Thursday at Western High.

Wyatt, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound junior, scored on runs of one and two yards as Kennedy (4-1) built a 14-0 first-quarter lead.

After Buena Park (0-5) cut the lead in half on a 36-yard run by Marquis Colvin in the second quarter, the teams traded field goals and the Fighting Irish led, 17-10, at the half.

Wyatt then broke loose on a 53-yard run in the third quarter and a 26-yard run in the fourth to put Kennedy up by 21 points.

Colvin, who rushed for 49 yards in 14 carries, added a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, followed by Earl Parker’s two-point pass to Jermaine Reed.

In nonleague games:

Brethren Christian 34, Los Angeles Fremont 12--Sophomore Kyle Painter threw four touchdown passes, three to Nathan Farris, and junior Steve Joo rushed for 147 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown run, in his first start to lead the Warriors at Long Beach Clark Field.

Painter completed 10 of 13 passes for 141 yards, including scoring passes of 10 and 20 yards in the first half to Farris, who caught seven passes for 89 yards to help Brethren Christian lead at halftime, 14-6.

Brethren Christian (3-2) held Fremont (2-3) to 20 yards passing. Linebacker Cris Escanes led Brethren Christian’s defense in tackles. Dave Workman had an interception for the Warriors, who held Fremont quarterbacks to one completion in 17 attempts.

El Modena 31, Fullerton 24--Fullerton rallied from a 17-point deficit to tie the score, but a late touchdown run by El Modena quarterback Tony Calderon sealed the victory for the Vanguards at home.

After Fullerton’s John Pate put his team on the scoreboard with an 11-yard run in the third quarter, El Modena returned the kickoff 70 yards to take a 24-7 lead.

Pate then returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards to pull Fullerton within 10, and he later scored on a five-yard run in the fourth quarter to tie the score, 24-24.

Calderon scored on a 15-yard run to put El Modena (3-2) ahead for good.

Fullerton is 1-4.

La Mirada 45, Pacifica 21--Pacifica starting quarterback Brent Kirkland left in the second quarter after suffering a concussion Thursday at Bolsa Grande High School. He is expected to return next week.

Backup Matt Reis completed 10 of 27 passes for 99 yards and no interceptions. He completed seven passes to senior wideout Jason Simpson, who tied the school record for receptions with nine, for 90 yards. Simpson also threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Reis on a trick play in the fourth quarter.

La Mirada (5-0) was led by Aaron Gomez, who scored three touchdowns. Pacifica fell to 3-2.

Whittier 17, Century 10--Jaime Chavez scored on a 10-yard touchdown run and Peter Espinoza kicked a 30-yard field goal for Century (1-4) at Santa Ana Stadium.

Whittier (3-1-1) rushed for two touchdowns and kicked a field goal, taking a 17-3 halftime lead.

Romero Carasa led Century in rushing with 164 yards in 20 carries. Chavez finished with 56 yards in four carries.

Whittier La Serna 34, La Habra 12--Josh White scored both touchdowns in the loss for visiting La Habra (1-4).

White returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Hall in the third quarter.

Josh Herrera led La Habra in rushing with 145 yards in 25 carries and caught three passes for 46 yards.
