Canyons Romps on Parks’ Five Touchdowns, 42-14

Jason Parks scored five touchdowns and powered College of the Canyons to a 42-14 victory over Pierce on Saturday in a Western State Conference North Division opener at Pierce.

Parks rushed for 134 yards in 24 carries and touchdown runs of four, three, 10 and six yards, and made a diving catch of Kevin Carrasco’s 26-yard pass for another score.

Parks, who entered the game fifth in the conference in rushing, improved his season total to 542 yards.

Carrasco completed 19 of 25 passes for 257 yards and the touchdown to Parks.

Jason Kitchens had four receptions for 85 yards and Jude Oliva had five receptions for 36 yards for Canyons (4-0).

Calvin Zinck completed 17 of 36 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns for Pierce (1-4), which snapped a 31-game losing streak last week with an overtime victory over Compton.

Vaughn Corley, who leads the WSC in receptions, caught four passes for 90 yards and both Pierce touchdowns.

Joe Dunster of Canyons returned an interception three yards for a touchdown late in the game.
