Ah Yat Rescues Montana

Brian Ah Yat passed for six touchdowns and ran one yard for the winning score with 3:21 left to give Montana a 49-42 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night at Nacogdoches, Texas.

Ah Yat completed 30 of 47 passes for 458 yards, including touchdowns of 11, 33, 37, four, 73 and four yards for Montana, helping the Grizzlies rally from a 27-7 deficit with 4:21 left in the first half.

Jim Farris caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Ah Yat with 3:32 left in the third quarter to tie the score, 42-42.

Ah Yat’s one-yard game-winning run capped a 10-play, 61-yard drive.

Jeremy Watkins caught seven passes from Ah Yat for 150 yards, Justin Olsen grabbed seven for 131 yards and two touchdowns, and Raul Pacheco caught six for 80 yards and two touchdowns.

Peyton Jones of Stephen F. Austin threw touchdown passes of nine and 47 yards to Zach Woods.

New Mexico 38, Idaho State 9--Graham Leigh passed for one touchdown and set up three more, and Regional Johnson ran for two touchdowns to help the Lobos make Rocky Long’s coaching debut a success at Albuquerque, N.M.

Leigh completed 18 of 26 passes for 203 yards and made a 47-yard run on the first play of the second quarter to set up Johnson’s two-yard touchdown run that gave New Mexico a 10-3 lead.

Pete Garces kicked a 55-yard field goal for Idaho State.

Montana State 45, Fort Lewis 9--Eric Kinnaman ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter and Rob Compson passed for two in the second for the Bobcats at Bozeman, Mont.

Compson completed 15 of 26 passes for 212 yards and Kinnaman rushed 10 times for 85 yards. Oscar Caballero caught six passes for 93 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown from Compson.

Sacramento State 25, St. Mary’s 12--A.J. Bernhardt ran five yards for one touchdown and passed 15 yards to Jeff Schultz for another to help the Hornets win at Moraga, Calif.

Charles Roberts rushed for 130 yards in 37 carries for Sacramento, which sacked Chad Thomas of St. Mary’s three times and intercepted two of his passes. The Gaels had five turnovers.

Northern Arizona 9, Cal Poly SLO 0--Mike Goldstein kicked field goals of 22, 43 and 39 yards in the first half for the Lumberjacks at San Luis Obispo.

Travis Brown of Northern Arizona completed 16 of 34 passes for 158 yards and Northern Arizona held the Mustangs to 157 total yards.
