Tipton, Costa Mesa Defeat Trabuco Hills in Water Polo

Costa Mesa, which trailed by three goals at halftime, came back with seven goals in the last two quarters to defeat Trabuco Hills, 10-8, in nonleague boys’ water polo Thursday.
Matt Tipton scored three goals and had five steals and teammate Hunter Taylor added two goals for visiting Costa Mesa.
In other nonleague games:
Cypress 19, Downey 6--Sophomore Josh Antunez scored seven goals and Sean DeBurg and Chris Pennock each scored three for Cypress.
El Modena 21, Kennedy 2--Senior Jeff Taylor had six goals and three assists for the visiting Vanguards. Jordan Graves and Toby Archer each scored three goals for El Modena, which led 12-0 at the half.
In nonleague boys’ cross-country:
Collins and Murray win--Corey Collins and Steven Murray shared first place, finishing in 16 minutes 50 seconds for three miles for host Santa Margarita (2-0), which swept the three-way meet. Fountain Valley is 1-1; Brea Olinda is 0-2.
In nonleague girls’ cross-country:
Santa Margarita wins triangular meet--Lori Mann won in 19:55 for the Eagles, who beat Brea Olinda, 19-39, and Fountain Valley, 18-37. Brea Olinda beat Fountain Valley, 23-25.
In nonleague girls’ golf:
Mater Dei 125, Esperanza 146--Shayna Shaw shot 37, to lead Mater Dei (1-0) at par-32 RiverView.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Dana Hills 16, University 2--Sophomore Isis Jackson and junior Jenny Dubow won in doubles, 6-0, 6-2, 6-2, for host Dana Hills (1-0).
Villa Park 11, Los Alamitos 7--Villa Park’s top two doubles teams swept their sets to lead the host Spartans to a comeback victory.
Jasmine and Tiffany Cheung and Kristen Lawson and Ann Kleinhenz lead the Spartans (1-0) to victories in eight of nine doubles sets.
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Esperanza 3, Ocean View 1--Julia Rex had 16 kills in the 15-6, 15-10, 4-15, 15-13 victory for visiting Esperanza (1-0). Jessica Brodosky led Ocean View (0-1) with 12 kills.
University 3, Mission Viejo 2--After losing the first two games, 9-15, 8-15, University came back to win, 15-11, 15-13, 15-6.
Julia Topik had 44 assists and Katie Brandt had 14 kills to lead University.
Villa Park 3, Trabuco Hills 0--Stacey Graf had eight kills and Kellie Culver had six aces and six kills in the 15-5, 15-12, 15-9 victory for host Villa Park (1-0).
