Foothill Wins With 3 Goals in 4th Quarter

Foothill scored three fourth-quarter goals to pull away and defeat El Toro, 8-6, in a nonleague boys’ water polo game Tuesday at El Toro.

The teams were tied, 5-5, after three quarters, but Pat Logan, Blake Seymour and Doug Leach scored in the final quarter for the Knights (1-1). Logan, Matt Ellis and Eitan Goldstein scored two goals for Foothill.

Trevor McMunn scored five goals for El Toro (0-1).

In other nonleague games:

Canyon 14, Trabuco Hills 13 (sudden death)--Chris Myer had the game-winner and Scott Butler scored eight goals for visiting Canyon.

La Habra 9, Laguna Beach 6 (OT)--Josh Jewett scored two overtime goals and Steve Salas finished with four goals for host La Habra (1-2).

Huntington Beach 22, Mater Dei 19--The Oilers (2-0) scored four times in the fourth quarter to win. Monarch sophomore Ryan Cook set a school record by scoring 11 goals.

In nonleague girls’ golf:

Santa Margarita 131, Villa Park 155--Sophomore Megan Mulhaupt shot four-over 40 at Tijeras Creek for host Santa Margarita (2-0). Sophomore Shelly Raworth shot 41 for Villa Park.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Corona del Mar 9, Dana Hills 9 (Corona del Mar wins on games, 75-65)--Eva Baudenbacher swept in singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for host Corona del Mar (1-0). Dana Hills’ Amy Tranckino defeated Nadia Vaughan, 6-3, in the final set.

Esperanza 9, Villa Park 9 (Esperanza wins on games, 72-66)--Shora Mobin and Laura Yano won only once, 6-4, but it came in the match’s final doubles’ set to give the Aztecs (3-0) the victory.

Westminster 9, Santa Ana Valley 9 (Westminster wins on games, 87-84)--Thanh Truong and her sister Thao won the final doubles set, 6-4, to give the visiting Lions (1-1) the victory.

In nonleague girls’ volleyball:

Capistrano Valley 3, Edison 0--Setter Andrea Delfigne had 35 assists for the host Cougars (2-0), who won, 15-5, 15-6, 15-9.

Calvary Chapel 3, Corona del Mar 2--Kelly Overby had 20 kills for Calvary Chapel (1-0), which won, 15-4, 15-2, 14-16, 9-15, 15-8. Dametra Havriluk had 16 kills for Corona del Mar (0-2).

Foothill 3, Trabuco Hills 0--Danielle Bauer had 20 kills for visiting Foothill (1-1), which won, 15-5, 15-13, 15-4. Trabuco Hills is 0-2.

Santa Margarita 3, Fountain Valley 1--Monique Gerlach had 11 kills for Santa Margarita (1-1), which won, 15-4, 15-6, 10-15, 15-6.
