Aaron Ligons / Orange Coast, sophomore / Football, defensive back
- Share via
Ligons, from Antelope Valley High, started his football career at Chico State but when the program was dropped, he had to find a new place and picked OCC. He was in on 10 tackles but also made two other key plays as OCC beat Saddleback, 20-16. He made a diving interception at the OCC 10 to stop one Saddleback drive. He then recovered a fumbled punt that set up the winning touchdown.

Zoila Gomez / Orange Coast, sophomore / Cross-Country
Gomez didn’t have far to look when selecting a college. She walked across the street from Costa Mesa High to OCC, where the Pirates had won the state title in 1997. Gomez’s college career started well, as she finished fourth in her first race. She then got her first victory Saturday in the Orange Empire Conference preview run. She won the 5,000-meter race in 19 minutes 45 seconds.
Volleyball
Richelle Danet
* Saddleback, sophomore. She had 59 assists as the Gauchos won two nonconference matches.
