Cervenka Carries Crescenta Valley With 17 Strikeouts
Meredith Cervenka allowed one hit and struck out 17 to lead Crescenta Valley High past Buena, 8-0, in the fifth-place game of the Arroyo Grande tournament on Saturday.
Cervenka, a sophomore right-hander, had three hits. Teammate Melinda Moulden had two hits and Lindsay Ray hit a two-run triple.
Earlier, Moulden (1-0) pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine for Crescenta Valley (10-5) in a 9-2 rout of Cathedral City.
Annemarie Blodgett had three hits and Ray hit a two-run double.
Saugus 2, Woodbridge 1--Kellie Cornelison’s squeeze in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie in a consolation game of the Woodbridge tournament.
Allie Walling and Sandy Volk each had two hits for the Centurions (6-5-1).
Cornelison had one of Saugus’ two hits in a 2-0 loss to San Clemente in another consolation game.
Paraclete 3, Palmdale 2--Brie Benanti’s pinch single drove in the winning run in the eighth inning of a nonleague game at Palmdale.
Tami Ortiz and Lauren McDonald each had two hits, and Amanda Wachsmuth did not allow an earned run for Paraclete (8-7).
L.A. Baptist 11-4, Flintridge Sacred Heart 6-6--Laura Miller hit a double and triple, and drove in three runs for the Tologs (8-3), who salvaged a split by winning the second game at L.A. Baptist.
Cyndi Shaw had two hits, including a three-run double, and Jillian Rice had three hits and drove in two for the Knights (3-6) in the first game.
BASEBALL
Chaminade 31, Malibu 0--The Eagles (11-4) sent 22 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring 19 runs in a nonleague game at Chaminade.
John Higashi hit a single, double and home run and knocked in six runs in the inning.
Jim Milkovich had three hits and Erik Johnson had a home run, single and three runs batted in.
Hueneme 7, El Segundo 4--Mike Serrata hit a two-run triple and Jason Auston hit a home run to help the Vikings win the championship game of the San Luis Obispo tournament.
Rudy Lopez Jr. (2-0) struck out nine, walked six and allowed six hits for the Vikings (7-5).
Travis McAndrews had three hits, including two two-run triples, for El Segundo (9-4).
Village Christian 9, Centennial 8--Ian Martin scored the winning run on an error with two out in the eighth inning in pool play of the Mary Star of the Sea tournament at Mary Star.
Village Christian (7-7-1) trailed, 8-5, entering the seventh inning but tied the score on Albert Quintana’s three-run home run, his first.
Quintana had two hits and drove in four runs.
Agoura 10-5, Las Vegas Western 5-6--Mike Falco hit two home runs, a double and a single and drove in four runs for the Chargers in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Western.
Nick Hillman had three hits, including a double, scored two runs and drove in two runs for Agoura (4-8) in the second game.
El Modena 4, Burroughs 3--Hans Gleason’s double off Jesse Perez (0-3) snapped a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning in a St. Paul tournament round-robin game at El Modena (6-10).
Burroughs is 7-9.
