Peron’s Late Goal Gives No. 5 Laguna Hills a Tie

Sophomore Julia Peron scored in the last 20 seconds of the game to give fifth-ranked Laguna Hills a 1-1 tie with No. 6 Aliso Niguel in Pacific Coast League girls’ soccer Tuesday.

Both teams are tied for first place in the Pacific Coast League, with one game remaining in league play.

Peron was assisted by her sister, April, a senior. Jamie Lautenschlager had six saves for the Hawks (19-2-3, 6-0-3). Liz Lundh scored Aliso Niguel’s goal in the first half. The Wolverines are 12-2-5, 6-0-3.

In another Pacific Coast League game:

Laguna Beach 2, Costa Mesa 1--Senior forward Rachel Heussenstamm scored in the last minute to secure the victory for visiting Laguna Beach (11-5-4, 3-4-2).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 6, Katella 1--Angela Rodriguez had two goals and Sandy Stasch scored her team-leading 16th goal of the season to lead El Dorado to its first league title. Aundra Thompson made four saves for the Golden Hawks (15-7-2, 8-1).

In the Orange League:

Valencia 5, Anaheim 0--Kate McFarland scored two goals, Katie Eatherton had two assists and Ashley Nelson made nine saves to lead Valencia to its fifth league shutout and second straight league title.

In the Sea View League:

No. 3 Woodbridge 4, El Toro 1--Sierra Cristiano scored two goals in the first 11 minutes with assists from Emily Schwimmer as Woodbridge clinched the league title.

In the South Coast League:

No. 9 Mater Dei 1, Dana Hills 1--Michelle Barker tied the score with 10 minutes left in the game for visiting Dana Hills (5-12-3, 1-5-3). Mater Dei’s Alison Fennell scored in the 20th minute on a header off a cross from Paige Pancoast.

San Clemente 1, No. 4 Mission Viejo 0--Whitney Jones scored the winner in the first half. San Clemente is 13-5-3, 5-3-1.

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 1, No. 7 Edison 1 (2 OT)--Brooke Thulin scored in the 60th minute on a penalty kick to tie the score for visiting Edison (15-5-3, 5-2-2). Niki Tycholis scored off a rebound in the 30th minute for Fountain Valley (4-12-2, 1-6-2). Fountain Valley’s Amanda Bell stopped Edison’s best chance in double overtime, making a diving save to push a shot wide with five minutes left.

In Freeway League boys’ soccer:

Buena Park 2, La Habra 1--Starting goaltender Miguel Gaitan scored the second goal for Buena Park (14-7-1, 8-0-1) on a penalty kick with 10 minutes left. Alejandro Ramos scored the other goal for Buena Park. Host La Habra is 2-6-1 in league.

Fullerton 3, Troy 1--David Nagana, Richard Rodriguez and Noe Nava scored for host Fullerton (8-10-2, 4-4-1).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 3, Fountain Valley 0--Juniors Will Mahaffey, Mitch Mosley, and Danny Collins scored for Edison (5-2-2 in league). Host Fountain Valley falls to 2-6-1 in league.
