Cal Lutheran Feasts on Occidental

Cal Lutheran concluded its first baseball series of the season by routing Occidental, 26-0 and 19-6, Saturday in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Assn. doubleheader at Cal Lutheran.

The Kingsmen (3-0, 3-0 in conference play), who routed the Tigers, 20-1, on Friday at Occidental, had 65 hits in the series.

Oregon State 9-4, Cal State Northridge 1-4--The Matadors managed only 10 hits in a nonconference doubleheader at Northridge.

Jeremy Sickles had two of the Matadors’ six hits in the first game, and Mike Bumstead hit a two-run home run for Northridge (7-7-1) in the second game, called after eight innings because of darkness.

Canyons 6, Harbor 4--Sergio Franco had seven hits for the Cougars two Western State Conference tournament victories.

The right fielder had four hits, including two home runs and five RBIs, in an earlier 13-8 victory over East L.A.

Tal Pilimai added six hits and five RBIs for Canyons (3-5).

Valley 13, East L.A. 8--Kevin O’Hara hit a two-run single and a run-scoring single during an eight-run fifth inning for the Monarchs in a WSC tournament victory.

Ed Jung drove in three runs with two hits for Valley (4-4) and had a two-run home run and a run-scoring single in a 10-3 victory over Harbor (5-2).

SOFTBALL

Moorpark 5, Utah Valley 1--Kim Whitcher scored on Dawn Carifi’s seventh-inning single to snap a 1-1 tie in a pool-play game, capping the third victory of the day for the Raiders at the Cypress tournament.

Jackie Aranda (3-0), who pitched two of the victories, struck out nine in Moorpark’s 2-0 decision over Ventura.

Delaina Talili hit two doubles and scored two runs, and Dawn Carifi had three hits and drove in three runs for the Raiders (5-0) in a 5-4 decision over Cypress.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

CS Northridge 61, Montana State 53--Edniesha Curry scored 16 points, and Neda Milic and Keisha Harris each added 10 for the Matadors (15-7, 9-3) in a Big Sky Conference game at Montana State (16-7, 10-3).
