Crescenta Valley Gets a Sweet 16

Kate Freudenberg scored four goals to lift Crescenta Valley High over Flintridge Prep, 16-2, in a Division II wild-card girls’ water polo playoff Wednesday at Crescenta Valley.

Freudenberg scored twice in a six-goal, second-quarter outburst that gave the Falcons an 8-0 lead.

Crescenta Valley (14-4) got two first-half goals from Shelley Stiles, who leads the team with 52 goals.

Freudenberg, who has 42 goals, had five steals, raising her season total to 80.

Also scoring twice for the Falcons were Shawna Byrnes and Jasmin Burgess.

Goalie Misty Harlan made 10 saves. She allowed Flintridge Prep’s goals in the fourth quarter.

In other Division II wild-card games:

Louisville 21, Malibu 4--Katie Pyle scored nine goals in a game at Louisville.

Paloma Slezak scored five goals for Louisville (16-8), which finished second in the Mission League.

Glendale 15, Pasadena Poly 4--Seven Dynamiters scored nine consecutive second-half goals in a game at Pasadena Poly (9-6).

Kristina Garcia scored four goals for Glendale (17-8), which outshot the Panthers, 32-15.

The Dynamiters outshot Pasadena Poly, 18-4, in the second half.

Ventura 10, Royal 7--Carly Huffman scored three goals and Amanda Hudson had two for Royal (12-13) in a game at Royal.
