Vasquez Runs to Third Victory in a Row

Erick Jackson and Wes Anderson combined for more than 300 yards rushing and each scored two touchdowns to help Vasquez High remain unbeaten after three games with a 44-28 nonleague victory Friday night at Silver Valley.

The Mustangs led, 28-6, at halftime, but were tied, 28-28, early in the fourth quarter. Vasquez then pulled away on touchdown runs of 28 and two yards by Anderson, who finished with 143 yards in 17 carries.

Jackson scored the first two touchdowns of the game and finished with 167 yards in 16 carries. He also had three two-point conversions.

Ryan Bellamy threw to Shawn Bolding for a 20-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-6.

Vasquez outgained Silver Valley, 380-337. Lonnell Grimes ran for four touchdowns for Silver Valley.

Darris McMullion was five-of-seven passing for 123 yards with one touchdown to Aaron Nelson.

Tehachapi 21, Paraclete 11--Sophomore Curtis Brown of Paraclete rushed for 270 yards and one touchdown in 25 carries in a losing effort at Tehachapi.

Tehachapi (2-1) took the opening kickoff and drove 66 yards in 10 plays, opening the scoring on a four-yard pass from Jerad Romo to Wes Backes.

Paraclete (2-2) answered on its opening drive with a 30-yard field goal by John McMurtry.

Tehachapi took a 14-3 halftime lead with a 10-play, 72-yard drive that culminated in a two-yard touchdown run by Mike Howell.

Paraclete opened the second half with an 80-yard touchdown drive in which Brown rushed for 71 yards, including a one-yard scoring run. Brown ran for the conversion.

Tehachapi sealed the victory with a drive of more than six minutes that culminated with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Romo to Backes.
