No. 2 Marina Defeats No. 5 Fountain Valley

Fifth-ranked Fountain Valley won the first-game battle, but second-ranked Marina came back to win the war, beating the Barons, 9-15, 15-10, 15-4, 15-6, in a Sunset League boys’ volleyball match Friday.

Rob Kijewski had 24 kills for Marina (7-1, 2-0) and Drew Wilson added 19 kills and 11 digs.

In another Sunset League match:

Los Alamitos 3, Edison 1--Ian Martini had 12 kills for host Los Alamitos, which won, 11-5, 15-10, 15-8, 15-6.

Sean McClaren had 31 kills for Edison.

In the Empire League:

Century 3, Katella 0--Chris Ferretti had 10 kills for host Century (5-4, 2-0).

Cypress 3, Loara 1--Cypress rallied to win, 11-15, 15-4, 15-10, 15-10. The Chargers (8-0, 2-0) were led by Zane Bermundo with 29 kills and Garrett Massey with 62 assists. Yan Ly and Anthony Yu each had 13 kills for Loara (7-1, 1-1).

In the Garden Grove League:

Los Amigos 3, La Quinta 2--David Chau and Ao Sualua had 12 kills each for host Los Amigos (6-4, 2-3) in a 10-15, 13-15, 15-9, 15-8, 15-5 victory.

Pacifica 3, Rancho Alamitos 0--Nathan Harris had seven kills for visiting Pacifica (6-3, 4-1) in a 15-10, 15-11, 15-6 victory.

In the Olympic League:

Brethren Christian 3, Calvary Chapel 2--Eric MacDonald had 19 kills and Sean Calvillo had 45 assists as host Brethren Christian (7-0, 1-0) rallied to win, 11-15, 15-10, 4-15, 15-9, 15-11.

Josh Sherman had 29 kills for Calvary Chapel (2-6, 0-1).

Whittier Christian 3, Cerritos Valley Christian 2--After winning the first game, 15-12, Whittier Christian dropped the next two, 14-16, 9-15. But senior Tim Layton’s 28 kills helped get the Heralds win the last two games, 15-8, 15-9.

Steve Zieman had 15 kills and eight blocks for Whittier Christian (8-2, 2-0).

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 3, Savanna 0--Kirk Reimer had 19 kills and Andrew Cushingham had 11 kills for host Brea Olinda (8-3, 1-0) in a 15-6, 15-7, 15-2 sweep.

Valencia 3, Western 0--Brian Bartczak had nine kills for visiting Valencia (9-0, 1-0), which won, 15-11, 15-6, 15-5.

In the Sea View League:

No. 1 Irvine 3, Aliso Niguel 0--Zach Jardine and Kris Kraushaar each had eight kills in the 15-5, 15-0, 15-9 victory for host Irvine (8-0, 2-0).

Tim Hefty had five kills for Aliso Niguel (3-3, 0-1).

No. 4 Newport Harbor 3, Laguna Hills 0--Billy Clayton and Dustin Illingworth had 10 kills each for visiting Newport Harbor, which won, 15-2, 15-8, 15-7.

Justin Ringer had 10 kills for Laguna Hills (3-6, 0-2).
