Aliso Niguel Defeats Sailors in Tiebreaker

Aliso Niguel defeated fourth-ranked Newport Harbor by virtue of a tiebreaker in a Sea View League boys’ golf match Tuesday at El Niguel.

Matt Schreiber sank a long par putt on the final hole to tie the Sailors, 207-207. The scorecards from the sixth players were compared and the Wolverines were declared winners when Jordan Bick’s round of seven-over 43 was better than Daniel Kush’s 47. Schreiber shot 39 to lead Aliso Niguel (9-4, 2-2).

Kevin Olson shot 38 for the Sailors (8-1, 3-1).

In the Serra League:

No. 2 Servite 182, Bellflower St. John Bosco 210--Ryan Carter shot one-under 34 for Servite (6-1, 2-0) at Los Amigos. Brian Donnelly recorded Servite’s first eagle of the season on the 497-yard par-five first hole.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 189, Los Alamitos 194--Medalist Andy Anderson tripled on the first hole but then birdied on four later holes to shoot a one-under 34 for Huntington Beach (8-0, 4-0) at Cypress.

In nonleague golf:

No. 1 Santa Margarita 178, Orange Lutheran 190--Chris Gallagher shot a two-under 35 for the Eagles at Willowick.

In Olympic League baseball:

Whittier Christian 8, Calvary Chapel 7--Peter Eberhardt, who pitched the entire game, put the game away with a home run in the bottom of the seventh. It was Eberhardt’s sixth home run of the season.

Milton Smith hit a grand slam in the first inning for Whittier Christian.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 3, Estancia 2 (8)--Steven Shores singled to right-center, scoring Carlos Franco from second for the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, for the Mustangs (6-7-1, 3-2) at Estancia.

In South Coast League boys’ swimming:

Dana Hills 91, San Clemente 79--Senior James Leishman won the 50 freestyle (22.36) and 100 freestyle (50.16), and junior Scott Baer took first in the 200 freestyle (1:50.05) and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.45) for Dana Hills (5-1, 3-0).

In Sea View League girls’ swimming:

No. 3 Newport Harbor 111, Woodbridge 56--Freshman Hayley Peirsol won two events for the Sailors, taking the 200 freestyle (1:54.56) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.14). Peirsol and Nicole Mackey swam on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

In Freeway League boys’ tennis:

No. 7 Troy 16, Buena Park 2--Edward Mendoza swept in singles 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, and Ryan Young and Drew Hess teamed to sweep in doubles, 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 for the Warriors (15-0, 4-0).

In the Sea View League:

No. 5 Woodbridge 17, Irvine 1--Brett Van Linge swept in singles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, for visiting Woodbridge (10-6, 4-0).
