Speaking of streaks, there were a couple of quirky ones recently that won’t find their way into any record books.

KC Robertson of La Reina threw 25 consecutive strikes in a game against Bishop Diego, going three consecutive innings without missing the strike zone.

During a nine-batter span against Notre Dame, Sarita Contreras of Alemany fielded eight comebackers for outs.

Don Hyatt of La Reina and Dudley Rooney of Alemany have combined to coach more than 30 seasons in the region, but neither had seen anything like their pitchers’ freaky streaks.

“It was definitely one of the more unusual things that has happened,” Hyatt said.

Rooney said it will be difficult to duplicate Contreras’ feat.

“Unless you put a sign on her jersey: ‘Hit ball here,’ ” he said.

Robertson has been a pleasant surprise for the Regents (9-4, 4-0 in Tri-Valley League play).

The 6-foot freshman right-hander was 4-0 with a 0.63 earned-run average entering her start Tuesday at Carpinteria.

The Golden League is finally joining the party.

The six Antelope Valley-area schools began league play on Tuesday, the last of the regional leagues to do so.

Other schools have already played as many as six league games.

“The girls are champing at the bit to get going,” said Coach Glenda Potts of Highland, one of four league schools to break a 15-day drought between games.

Highland (7-5) is hoping to break rival Quartz Hill’s string of four consecutive titles. The teams meet April 20 at Quartz Hill.
