May Will Coach Los Alamitos Basketball
Los Alamitos has hired Lakewood Mayfair assistant Russ May as its boys’ basketball coach, Griffin Athletic Director Rob Wigod announced Sunday.
May was an assistant coach at Cerritos College for five seasons, helping the Falcons win a state title in 1999, before coming to Mayfair last year. The Monsoons reached the Southern Section Division II-AA semifinals before losing to Ocean View this season.
May played at Cerritos College and Cal Poly Pomona.
“We’re thrilled to have a good young coach, a guy who has great playing and coaching experience,” Wigod said.
May, 29, plans to meet with administrators, returning players and their parents in about a week.
“I’ve lived in the area so I’ve always known about Los Alamitos and what they stood for,” May said.
