Griffins Advance to Semifinals

Lynsey Farina pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts as Los Alamitos, ranked eighth in the county, defeated Canyon, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the Michelle Carew softball tournament Monday at Peralta Park.

Kristin Farber had three hits, scored two runs and stole four bases to give her 25 for the season for Los Alamitos (13-5), which plays Esperanza in a semifinal at 9:30 a.m. today at Peralta Park.

In another quarterfinal game:

Esperanza 3, El Dorado 0--Kristen Dedmon (11-3) had eight strikeouts and no walks in her sixth shutout of the season for Esperanza (15-4). Molly Denkler went three for three for the Aztecs.

In a consolation game:

Huntington Beach 3, Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon 0--Lindy Lipscomb’s run-scoring double in the sixth broke a scoreless tie for Huntington Beach. Tiffany Brown and Kari Stockstill each had two hits for the Oilers (4-8).

The Oilers also defeated Santa Ana Valley, 6-1, as Ashley Perkins (2-5) struck out 12 and had a triple and three runs batted in.

In the Riverside golf tournament:

Anderson, Oilers win--Andy Anderson led Huntington Beach to the team title with a round of one-under 71 at the Victoria Club. Anderson had five birdies for the Oilers, who tied with Palos Verdes Peninsula at 376, but won on a lower score by their sixth player.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 194, Sierra Madre Maranatha 211--Matt Amen shot two-over 37 at Willowick for Orange Lutheran (11-5, 8-0).
