St. Margaret’s Boys Reach Tournament Final

St. Margaret’s advanced to today’s championship game of the Palos Verdes Chadwick boys’ soccer tournament, edging Cerritos Valley Christian in a shootout Friday, 5-4.
After a scoreless tie in regulation, goalkeeper Hutch Parker converted the final penalty kick for St. Margaret’s (3-0) and then blocked Darin Haringsma’s final attempt to secure the victory.
In the Harold S. Young tournament:
No. 6 Capistrano Valley 5, Tucson (Ariz.) Sunny Side 0--The Cougars (3-0) advanced to today’s quarterfinals with two consecutive shutouts. They defeated Fresno, 6-0, in an earlier game. Goalkeeper Zach Mikelson had 11 saves in two games, including a blocked penalty shot.
In the Inland Empire tournament:
Mater Dei 2, Corona 2 (Mater Dei advances on penalty kicks, 3-1)--Juan Gutierrez and Mark Thornberry scored for Mater Dei (3-0), which will play Temecula Valley in today’s semifinals.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
No. 4 El Dorado 1, Valencia 0--Jay Larson scored from 15 yards in the 63rd minute for host El Dorado (1-0).
Aliso Niguel 2, Estancia 1--Brockton Schermerhorn scored the winner in the 50th minute for the Wolverines. Osbaldo Nieves gave Estancia the lead in the first half, but Matt Davey tied it in the second half for Aliso Niguel (1-0-1).
Cypress 3, Costa Mesa 2--Adam Dominguez scored two goals to lead Cypress (1-0).
Edison 1, Foothill 1--Dan Shah scored with one minute remaining for the Knights (1-0-1).
El Toro 2, Laguna Hills 1--Sean McMannis and Doug Franco scored for El Toro (2-0). Matt Chandler scored for Laguna Hills (0-1-1).
In nonleague girls’ water polo:
No. 6 Corona del Mar 8, No. 9 Villa Park 5--Danielle Carlson scored five goals for Corona del Mar (2-0).
