Great Teams

A selection of top teams from Orange Lutheran football history:

1983--The season didn’t begin auspiciously for Orange Lutheran, which lost three and tied one of its first five games. But the Lancers took off once they began Arrowhead League play, as they swept all five games, the last three by shutout. A 7-0 victory over La Verne Lutheran in the final week clinched Orange Lutheran’s first conference championship.

1994--After a decade in the middle of the Olympic League pack, the Lancers broke out with a league championship and their first section championship game berth. A 30-17 victory over Cerritos Valley Christian in the final week of the regular season gave Orange Lutheran a tie for the league title. In the Division X playoffs, a 7-6 semifinal victory set up a meeting with Montclair Prep, which routed the Lancers, 53-13. Joe Juliano passed for 1,696 yards and was named the division’s player of the year.

1999--A record-setting performance by quarterback Jason Whieldon helped boost Orange Lutheran to its first perfect regular-season record. Whieldon passed for 2,844 yards, and his 40 touchdown passes were the most in county history. The Lancers were only once held under 40 points, in a 35-20 victory over Cerritos Valley Christian in a game that decided the Olympic League championship. But Banning surprised Orange Lutheran, 46-36, in the second round of the Division XI playoffs.
