Sonuyi May Skip Playing Football

Esperanza senior tailback Temitope Sonuyi, who led the county with 2,492 yards rushing this season, on Sunday said he might skip football in college to focus on academics.

Sonuyi, who is No. 1 in his high school class of nearly 700, said he received an acceptance last week to Massachusetts Institute of Technology and might go there for its engineering program, not its Division III football program. “I might just see if I can cope with [academics] by itself,” said Sonuyi, who is also considering Harvard, Stanford and Cal.
