Shutout Gives El Dorado Empire Title

El Dorado clinched the Empire League boys’ soccer title Friday by defeating Loara, 2-0, at El Dorado.

Ignacio Cid and Ryan Valdez each had goals. It was Cid’s 34th goal of the season. Fifth-ranked El Dorado is 24-3, 8-0; Loara fell to 12-9-2, 5-1.

In another Empire League game:

Kennedy 2, Century 1--Diego Figueroa scored the game-winner on a penalty kick six minutes into overtime for visiting Kennedy (11-10, 4-4). Century (8-7-2, 5-3) is in second place.

In the Academy League:

Fairmont 3, Downey Calvary Chapel 1--Steven Park scored two goals and Brian Kim scored one for Fairmont (8-3-1, 6-2), which had 12 saves from Joseph Park.

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 1, Sunny Hills 0 -- Bryan Barragan scored his eighth goal of the season for Buena Park (7-9-4, 4-1-3), which remains in second place.

Fullerton 4, La Habra 2--David Magana and Damian Silvelara each scored two goals for first-place Fullerton (15-4-4, 6-0-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 1, Santiago 0--Nick Grenert scored the winning goal midway through the first half on a direct kick for host Garden Grove (7-9, 6-4). It was the first league loss for Santiago (8-1-2 in league).

In the Sea View League:

Laguna Hills 2, Aliso Niguel 1--All three goals were scored in the final three minutes. Nate Warner scored the game-winner for Laguna Hills (5-12-3, 2-4-1) with one minute remaining. Brock Schermerhorn scored for Aliso Niguel (8-9-2, 1-5) and Matt Chandler scored the first goal for Laguna Hills.

Newport Harbor 1, No. 7 Woodbridge 1--Tyson Wahl scored on a free kick in the 56th minute for visiting Newport Harbor (2-1-4 in league). The Sailors clinched a playoff spot for the first time in three years.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 3, Trabuco Hills 0--Sam Allen, Will Beard and Ben Squirrell all scored for league-leading Mission Viejo (5-1-2 in league).

San Clemente 1, Dana Hills 1--Kevin Cory tied the score with three minutes remaining for Dana Hills. Jesus Ramirez scored San Clemente’s goal in the opening minutes of the first half.
