Alemany Starts Quickly and Finishes Nordhoff

Kate Beckler scored 13 of her 22 points in the first quarter when Alemany High built a 26-point lead en route to a 95-33 victory over Nordhoff in the second round of the Southern Section Division III-AA girls’ basketball playoffs on Saturday night at Alemany.

Beckler had five steals for Alemany (22-5), which is ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times.

In other Division III-AA games:

Harvard-Westlake 75, South El Monte 26--L’Tanya Robnett had 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines in a victory at South El Monte (13-11).

Robnett scored 17 points in the first half and did not play in the fourth quarter when Harvard-Westlake (21-7) outscored South El Monte, 17-1.

Brooke Porter added 13 points for Harvard-Westlake.

Rosary 62, Chaminade 53--Julie Cichon scored 16 points and Christina Zdenek had 15 in a losing effort for the Eagles (11-13) at Rosary (20-9).

Bishop Montgomery 86, Notre Dame 55--Sierra Hauser-Price’s 22 points were not enough for Notre Dame (16-9) in a second-round game at Bishop Montgomery.

Lauren Ervin, a 6-foot-3 freshman, scored 30 points for Bishop Montgomery.

Corona del Mar 60, La Canada 49--The Sea Queens outscored La Canada, 14-3, in overtime, making 12 of 14 free throws at Corona del Mar.

Kristin McCoy scored eight of her 17 points in overtime.

DIVISION I-AA

Camarillo 45, Yucaipa 38--Tanya Wismann scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half for the Scorpions in a second-round victory at Yucaipa (21-6).

Camarillo (17-9) outscored Yucaipa, 17-4, in the first quarter.

Peninsula 50, Rio Mesa 46--Maribel Ambriz scored 14 points and Maria Ayala added 13 points for the Spartans, who rallied from a 10-point deficit before losing a second-round game at Rio Mesa.

Rio Mesa (11-14) went on a 16-2 run in the third quarter to take a 37-33 lead, but Marissa Artiano, who scored 14 points, and Mallory Ellis, who had 10, helped Peninsula (18-10) take control.

DIVISION I-A

Ventura 72, Hart 36--Jenni Dooley hit five three-point shots, including four in the third quarter, and finished with 17 points for the Cougars in a second-round victory at Ventura.

Alex Gientke and Katy O’Brien each added 13 points for Ventura (25-1), which has an eight-game winning streak.

Kristine Gleisberg had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars, ranked No. 1 in The Times’ regional poll.

Buena 96, Silverado 39--Kelly Greathouse had 34 points and 13 rebounds, and Courtney Young had 12 points and seven assists and the Bulldogs (22-5) won a second-round game at Buena.

Greathouse made 16 of 21 shots and scored 15 points in the third quarter.

Courtney LaVere added 11 points, 12 rebounds and four steals the Bulldogs, ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times.

Janecia Rolland had 18 points for Silverado (20-6).

DIVISION II-AA

Littlerock 55, Rim of the World 44--Rashawna Mays had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five steals to lead Littlerock (18-9) in a first-round victory at Rim of the World.

Agoura 54, Gahr 52--Jennifer Lacy had 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Chargers (17-11) in a first-round victory at Agoura.

DIVISION IV-AA

Oak Park 82, Sacred Heart of Jesus 36--Jannel Buckley had 22 points and six steals and Julia Bowman had 12 points and nine assists for the host Eagles (15-8) in a first-round victory.

DIVISION IV-A

Village Christian 63, Mojave 59--Karri Keeble had 19 points and made a free throw to send the game into overtime, where the Crusaders outscored Mojave, 6-2, at Village Christian.

Keeble had five three-pointers and six steals for Village Christian (13-13), which led, 27-18, at halftime but trailed by eight points in the third quarter when Mojave (14-9) outscored the Crusaders, 24-8.

DIVISION V-AA

Santa Clara 40, Bishop Diego 29--Nicole Palomares had 19 points and Ashley Buggins had 10 points and 18 rebounds for the Saints (15-9) in a first-round victory at Santa Clara.

Campbell Hall 58, Faith Baptist 54--Brittany Morris hit four free throws in the last 50 seconds to lift the Vikings (15-11) in a first-round game at Faith Baptist.

Morris, who had 28 points and 21 rebounds, broke a 54-54 tie.

Rose Sierra had 32 points for Faith.

Grace Brethren 53, Santa Maria Valley Christian 41--Heidi Zeigler had 23 points and the Hawks closed out the victory with a 17-1 burst.

Grace Brethren trailed, 40-36, with four minutes left but Zeigler made 11 of 12 free throws as the Hawks (14-11) outscored Valley Christian, 23-5.
