Benkert Is Selected as Shrine Coach
Jim Benkert, who led Westlake High to the Southern Section Division III football championship last season, was picked as the head coach for the California team in the 37th annual California-Texas Shrine All-Star Classic.
The game, which is June 24 at Cerritos College, features the top high school seniors from each state.
The team will be announced next week.
* Sid Ware will not return to as football coach at Kilpatrick.
Ware, who led the Mustangs to the Southern Section Division XII final in 1998 and 1999, had to give up the position he held for four seasons after he was promoted within the L.A. County Probation Dept.
Kilpatrick, a facility for juvenile offenders in Malibu, requires head coaches work on campus.
